Beacons Fighting Spirit Wins Through!!
Beacon Field Engineer Mike Brent produced an all-action last-round display to wrest the IKF light welterweight title from previously unbeaten holder Dean Alexander at the Guildhall.
Mike also avenged the only loss on his impressive fight record but had to stage a grand finalé in the fifth round to claim the points decision at the end of the rollercoaster contest.
Supported by most of the Southwest Beacon Team Mike took the first two rounds and had the 800 strong crowd on their feet anticipating a stoppage. But Bournemouth's Alexander not only survived Mikes ferocious onslaught but fought back to take rounds three and four on the Bulls on Parade II show.
Mike was told in no uncertain terms by Taurus chief and the event's promoter Jimmy Hamilton that he ‘was in a one-round title fight' and needed to pull out all the stops in the fifth and thats exactly what he did with a high-octane performance that took the English amateur championship on a split decision.
Mikes club Taurus couldn't have been more delighted and are now looking at maybe stepping him up for a British title bout at the next Bulls on Parade show in February again at the Plymouth Guildhall.
Most of the Beacon Supporters came away having lost their voices and one, who shall remain nameless, was even moved to tears!!!!!
Well done Mike we are all very very proud of you!!
